PREY (Game Series)
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:17:24 PM »

(Pic I made for fb group)

So I know others here like this game too? We can talk about Prey here with the new game coming too. I actually like the main character in Prey 2006 a lot xD He is a bad ass too. Its one of the few games I actually wrote a review for also, so read that to figure out what Prey is if you don't know.

Prey 2006 Review: https://duke64nukem.com/2016/06/05/prey-review/

I also made a facebook group for this game. The game it has a rather small following for the classic. The new one is probably already more popular before release simply because the promo tools these days.

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/393174627695207/

Anyways, the new one looks cool but I wish they would give it a name. Not just Prey. Should be called something a long the lines of "Prey: Reborn" or some kind of name representing what we may experience. Don't just call it Prey that is lazy and not creative. I know what Prey is already I have it right here already. I look forward to the game but why can't they have a name??

The new one won't be as good as the old one. Tommy and Talon are awesome and the game even has an editor and a decent mp.

Speaking of the editor I messed around in it before lol didn't get deep into it but wanted to make a mp map. I played the mp lately with someone through Qtracker it was still fun even with just 2 players.

My map mess around xD

Well the new Prey game is coming soon though seems like it could be good but for me its going to be tough to place it next to the original. But that doesn't mean I'm not looknig forward to it its just a minor pick here.

Store page for the new Prey game http://store.steampowered.com/app/480490/

Message to Devs of the new one lol:

xD I think we all know which one will be better after said and done. So give it a new name I can't really appreciate re using names again and changing it completely :o

I always called him Turok's cousin Tommy kicks ass.

That was a great video Duke, I enjoyed watching it. Some of those soldiers you killed sounded like the same from quake 4, the grunting. Raven software put that out, and it was ok at the time but didn't last more than 1 year. Going way back, Raven made a game called "Soldier of Fortune" that had a great single player campaign. It was a big success and then id software had them develop Quake 4 for release. One of the guys I used to play quake 3 with got a job with Raven as a level designer. He came here from the UK somewhere to work on Quake 4. Simon O'Callaghan. I guess he just put out a quake II engine mod or something I heard mentioned somewhere. I'm highjacking the thread.

It's just there's so much history going on here it's awesome to remember some small part of it. The new PREY regardless of the bad naming looks way out there, I mean good. I haven't seen anything like it before. I see elements of Half life and the original PREY that stand out immediately. I guess it's supposed to be out in 2 months. I gotta hit the sack, but I'll be checkin' back here.

Isn't the editor and engine the same as Doom 3? Prey was cool it has signs of that portal game too before portal came out Prey had the trippy portals.

Hey I looked for my copy of Prey 2006 and couldn't find it. I'm thinkin' it was that period when xbox 360 came out and the graphics were better than PC for a couple of weeks. AMD added CPU support to the GPU pipeline and yata yata I bought an xbox 360 and played PREY. I don't have a PC version.

Duke is that video PC or xbox 360? I remember something happens to Jen, either they flat out send her to the hereafter, or she fights Tommy and he had to slaughter her. Either way, poor Jen.

I played the first Prey, and while the concept was great the game play was just meh. After you get the spirit abilities or whatever combat is a breeze, even on hard. I don't know about it's sequel, but it left much to be desired. Multiplayer was alright though.

I recently played through it again and I was pretty impressed by how well the game holds up.  The game can get a bit meh at times but it's worth sticking with.  Like most games, I've never played the multiplayer.  Is it much different from Doom 3?

I remember my pal having the 360 version but I found my PC version ran a bit smoother though I did run it at a lower resolution.

Nowadays I can run the game maxed out at high resolutions and it looks lovely.

As for the name for the new game.  Yep, that's pretty lazy.  It's so boring that these companies are so hooked on brand recognition that they're too scared to name their games with any kind of an identity of their own.  Stop "rebooting" these bloody franchises - it makes Google searches really annoying!

I used to love this game. It was one of the first games I got on the Xbox 360. It's been so long since I played it so I don't know how well it holds up. There were a lot of cool ideas like portals, shrinking, walking on walls and living weapons(similar to the vampire gun in Turok 3).

It's a pretty screwed up game.  The first time I went through the portal I was super impressed.  Being on that tiny planet near the beginning was pretty cool too.  I'm not sure why the game didn't do better.  I think the devs did a great job considering the amount of time they spent in development hell.

The video is the pc version of course. Yeah Tommy has to kill Jen she became a monster :( Not coo but you do see here spirit in the end along with Grandfather. I had a full playthrough on one video but it got banned in every country due to the music on the jukebox xD

Yeah that's exactly how I feel but yeah I do look forward to the game it looks trippy like an unknown world but it reminds me of System Shock and Bioshock which could bring up another topic heh. I'm definitely going to get this Prey I just wish they would name it correctly its a mixture of laziness and making google analytics confusing as hell.
