Why the switch between tribes?
« on: October 01, 2016, 09:57:14 AM »
I was just curious if it was ever stated by newer developers why they chose to drop Turok's Mandan ancestry and go with the Kiowa peoples.  I've tried to scour the ends of the lost valleys for interviews regarding the decision but nothing on record beyond "it seemed to fit".  Just wondering if you had any theories or if it's simply a creative choice/out with the old, in with the new developers.  Also, thanks to whomever planted this jungle for Turok fans.  Love the series and this place has way more fellow fans than I imagined

Welcome to the forum buddy! Enjoy your stay! :)
I think they changed it because they did not care for the source material or maybe to not be offensive towards indian people?

It explains the switch to the fictional Saquin but unfortunately not the one from Mandan to Kiowa. But then again, the Dark Horse Turok is Algonquin and the Dynamite Turok is Mississippian; Turok's never had a stable tribal identity. :P

Ah, great!  I have very vague memory of seeing this "interview" quite some time ago, and it's nice to re-read them and digest them again.  "Pur-linn are named after Don Perlin from Valiant" - now there's one amusing fact to remember. ;)  I also like seeing those Turok 1 gameplay hints they include in the sidebars.  In particular, I really how even back in the day, people were popularizing the fun bug where you "head slide" down staircases with ramped ceilings.
