Moderators/Forums/ New Registration
« on: August 21, 2016, 02:18:59 PM »
Moderators: Almost everyone would want to be one and tbh most have left a note about how they would like that, I do consider people so you guys know. The truth is there really isn't much to moderate (besides a spam bot situation which I will discuss below). The frequent posters, we know each other already heheh. So you know I do have to take in consideration for who.. when the time is. You frequent posters and original members are all mods to me already, it shapes the place and tone more than an admin.

Forums: We have had a bot spam and unfortunately only a few of the members are real. Its hard for me to tell which sometimes, but i'm using email addresses that I never heard of before and members who have joined recently with 0 posts. If it says @gmail.com or other well known emails I might take a second look and send the member a message giving them a few days to respond. But slowly I will get some of this crap out of here I have already got rid of a few. I have no idea how they were getting passed the original security somehow or another they were doing the captcha right and the finish the word and being able to get in.

New Registration: Now when you register the captcha is set on a more difficult setting. And you now have to answer 4 questions. They are easy if you are a Turok fan. Or you could google it easily. The questions to answer are.

(Don't fill these in here)
Finish the word: TUR**
Finish the word: Turok Evolu****
Finish the word: Turok 2 Seeds of ****
Finish the word: Turok Dinosaur Hunt**

I need to know if this is to hard of a sign up? To me I think you should know how to fill those out quickly. But I was thinking what if someone only knows one of the games/comics side. Then again you could google right? Let me know someone, if that is to hard of a registration maybe for fans who may know a little less about all Turoks?

Dinosaur Hunter
"Its time to make tracks"
"You are tiny grasshopper"
"Suck it down"
"Boo, No soup for you"
"Arrrgghhhh"
"I live again"

With my experience with these bots from a few years ago, they are relentless. You can get the same IP sign up multiple times. Some even pretend to say how they like the forum (without mentioning the main subject of the forum), but they never post again. That spam makes no sense because they don't even advertise.

I have seen all kinds of spam. Weird symbols, advertising in other languages and anything about drugs such as Cialis or Viagra.

I'm not going to ask because I never had to, but I'm happy to help watch over things whenever I'm logged in, if you need it. I didn't think I was going to be this active on here, but I have. But, it's always best to have the most active posters as mods. I still have my inactive days and I'm not on here during the time I play my PS4 or PS3.

I know that Super/Global Moderators can ban, but can they view a Moderator Control Panel on this forum's format? Some admins have this setting either on or off for their mods. If it's on, the mods can do IP or E-Mail checks on suspicious accounts. I remember there use to be a Spam Decimator, but that was on vBulletin. A few mods accidentally hit the button on the wrong member when I was very active on there. I had to restore their thousands of deleted posts and their threads (a few which were important ones). I didn't have to at the time, but the forums got messed up.

That button helps instantly delete all the spam posts/threads and ban the person indefinitely, but it's a curse at the same time. Not because of the possibility of mods going rogue for whatever reason, but the simple lapse in judgement that can happen.

Don't even ask me how a mod can fail in such an epic way... xD I never allowed myself to make that mistake!

Anyway, I don't think the questions are hard. The obvious suggestion will appear as you type it in Google.

The weirdest one we've had was at the beginning of the Turok Forum. It advertised christian themed sex toys. Kinda ironic, if you think about it LOL

I guess avoiding sins can get somewhat... Frustrating. xD

Out of all the ones I've seen, I don't think I recall seeing one like that... LOL!

The registration is not to hard. But its possible that you don't need an extremely difficult captcha if they have to fill in the blanks here. They could never figure out 4 fill in the blanks :))

Registration is fine. Good to see you cleaning out bots. How the hell were they doing the captcha and finishing the word? Fucking smart bots wth.
