Title: Evolution Cover Art
Post by: Acclaim on August 27, 2015, 01:08:45 PM
The cover art (as well as the bulk of Turok art) was created by Matt Stubbington.  Matt was one of the founders of Iguana and a spectacular artist.  Sadly he passed away three years ago from a hereditary disease.

I had asked Matt to create a piece of art for promo use that was evocative of the scene in Jurassic Park where the alpha velociraptor ambushes gamekeeper Robert Muldoon.

The idea was a dense rainy forest scene with just hints of the rex in shadow.  glowing eyes, glint of teeth, etc...

It was a tough concept to pull off as a static image and just when we were going to give up on the idea Matt came up with that.

It was never intended to be the package but was just such a kick ass piece of art it was only natural that we used it.

That is very interesting info and very specific also. Must be the real Acclaim :D Sorry to hear of the loss it effects us all :/ but to me it makes this art even more legendary. I am a huge fan of art and I must say the very best raptors to this day are Turok Evolutions and Jurrasic Parks raptors. There isn't any others that even come close besides Turok 1 and 2 raptors. Thanks for sharing that to! and welcome :)

Rest in peace man. Intresting facts. My condolences. 39 years is a young age to die... :(

Good information there. Well Matt you were a very skilled artist, the drawing is still amazing its a bit more on the vicious side and if you search scary raptor on google you will see Jurassic Park Raptor and Turok Evolution raptor.

I cant take a quick enough screen of when he reaches out with claws and attacks it happens to fast hehe but the resemblance is there pretty cool knowing. That scene is one of the best there, that nose you see in the picture wont be there for long don't worry.

I decided to take the nose out and enhance a bit I did really fast but I couldn't get a shot without it :)

Nice! I actually thought the Evolution raptor was better. I know they look quite similar but the tongue, teeth, and eyes were better in the Evolution raptor.  ::) Pretty cool green Jurassic Park raptor hehe

I never knew who illustrated the cover art for Evolution, thanks for sharing this! It's sad to know that he had died, he produced some amazing artwork. :(
