A Doom 64 user map

This is a wad for Doom 64 EX only and it features Turok textures in a Doom 64 world. It is only one level here so far… It is a Hub type of map to kind of be like the Hub Ruins but only inspired by (not to replicate). It is also a wad packed with Turok textures from 1 and 2.

Story: Doom Guy is summoned to take on a mixture of Doom and Turok worlds. Hell is starting to take over The Lost Land at a fast rate and Doom Guy’s got to wipe the demons out while Turok is busy with Turok 2.

P.S If you were to load the wad into a new map project you can use all the textures in it ;) Turok 1 and 2 Textures in here.

DoomRok V2 Updates 12/8/18:

Fixed end of map screen to display map name correctly.
Added a lot of lighting/color.

Damn getting it now xD why no post on the steam and facebook Doom 64 groups? But this looks really good man. Maybe I will make a video I am a slacker on videos lol. Congrats on releasing another one. Going to leave some real feedback later once I play it.

My head is spinning in nostalgia Turok and Doom 64 combo? Feel like I am taking a time travel portal that somehow put me in a crazy unknown dimension. Playing now man!

Looks fun. Any tutorials on now to install mod?

Do you mean how to install Doom 64 Ex? Or how to run the map?

If you mean how to run the map/wad itself you just put it inside your doom 64 ex folder where "Doom64.exe"" is located and click on the.wad file to run it. So instead of clicking on Doom64.exe you click on the .wad file you want to run, it will work as long as its in the same folder as the exe :)

Damn getting it now xD why no post on the steam and facebook Doom 64 groups? But this looks really good man. Maybe I will make a video I am a slacker on videos lol. Congrats on releasing another one. Going to leave some real feedback later once I play it.

I see you got small green flames. As for the big green flames in the sky texture, is there any way to make them a colour that's not available on the editor? The editor doesn't have blue. Only green and regular.

Exactly man its Bad ass just bad ass and I kind of used your comment as a description for my video ;)

Okay guys I am going to start writing reviews and giving numbered ratings for Doom 64 maps. I'm going to start things off with this map Duke. Coming soon...

No problem I was just saying what it was :) Good job on the level in the video. I should make a yt one day. Not to record though I don't feel like making vids lol. Is anybody else thinking about Blood level 1 at the start o this level? I'm thinking you made the start somewhat like Blood level 1! Correct me if wrong

I just finished it. Those Barons at the end kept on respawning. xD I guess because the trigger was set to all four Linedefs on each square and I crossed it a few times. I noticed when I made square triggers on my map and the enemy I killed would respawn. I finally set it to a single line and figured out how to concect weapon pickups with spawning.

Anyway, it was fun.

You were the first to do it... oh hell yeah I see the date July 27th xD that's before the release of the level. Probably first to play it also.. Oh yeah I see in the text file that is included that you were a tester on additional credits. Nice video and really cool thumbnail graphic for it.

well he did send it to me to try it out since i have Doom 64 EX. as for the thumbnail, i basically was playing a thing using Doom 64 EX

I knew something was ringing a bell :) That is a crazy but cool mix up on a Doom and Turok type map with a Blood starting point.

I wanted it like this so if you mess up and don't make it over to the other edge... well you pay for your mistakes :) I should change it to 2 lines only so it can only spawn 4 because if you mess up a lot you could end up with 8 barons. Probably going to knock it down to two lines though 8 Barons in that tight space could be an auto death heheh thanks.

I noticed this same thing texting out my map and having a dead Cacodemon respawn if I went over the line again. xD It since for changes to spawn on a weapon pickup.

I guess if I had known, I would've just hit the end switch But, I like to kill EVERY enemy that's in my sight, before I'm done! >:D

Thanks, glad you like it :) About Duke mapping...No I haven't stopped yet I actually have a few things I'm working on in Duke but its pretty much on a pause for now. Some I can't say but I can say this one ;)

This map is so big that I'm unable to add anymore to it because I reached the limit. I just need to do some finishing touches like aligning some of the textures and small things like that. But when its a huge map its hard to go through all the small things.

What are the map limits on the editor? I was actually wondering for a while if there was such a thing.

I'm surprised I haven't reached any of them yet, though the scale of my map is quite small and confined in some areas due to the shape.

I need to get back into it. It's been more than a few days since my last session on it. I need to figure out events and activation on enemy death, next.

You should try a Lost Land (T1 Level 7 version). The fog and the lava fields along with the industrial looking fortress always looked good. I know there's two foggy sky boxes (Cyan and Red) on that editor, though not in yellow, but I'm sure you're able to edit those.

I am unsure what the limits are on the Doom Builder actually, I only know the limit of Duke 3d's editor. I'm sure you will get the other things you are going to try, I think you will be surprised how easy some things can be done since you pretty much know the editor now and how it works already :)

Out of all the stuff, I haven't been able to reach any limits. I guess you can build much bigger. I remember making a massive arena with 1000 Cyberdemons, once. xD If there is a limit, it must be astronomical. The only thing a big map will probably do is increase the WAD in file size and they're pretty small files.

I kind of want an enemy death to trigger another enemy (acting as the guardian of that area) which you must kill to open the way to the portal that leads to the next area. If it's possible to make waves of enemies, one spawning after another... The area's main enemy will be a "Nightmare Creature" or on my map, an "Abyssal _____". An Abyssal Knight, Mancubus and Baron are a few ideas for area mini-bosses. I should have an Abyssal Cyberdemon, but I wasn't planing on having a massive boss fight. Maybe in a sequel to my theme.

As annoying as they are to fight, I wish this game had Revenants and Arch-Viles in it.

Duke 3d's mapping limit is really big its over 16k walls and 16k sprites. Duke measures by how many walls, sectors, and sprites you have and there aren't many user maps that use that amount and none of the maps in the original game even come close to reaching this number. That Duke map took me over a year to make but since its still not finished I guess I can say over two years now hehe :) I have a feeling Doom's is probably around the same but maybe a little more the limits on these things are ridiculously big and most likely won't be hit.

As far as trigger on death/ spawner this demon on my map(where the blue key is) triggers enemies to spawn. You can probably reference it for sure

Revenant is my favorite Demon and he is added into the Brutal Doom 64 :)) But not Arch-vile.

I have 3 new maps coming soon as a mini episode :) 2/3 are already done third is about 70% I would say so soon.

A year later and a port of Doom 64 is now on Steam! But on topic, I had a great time with this map. Early Doom 64 designs had pyramids and textures inspired by ancient cultures, which eventually got put into the hell levels, so the aztec themed textures of Turok fit well in Doom 64. The beginning of the map reminds me a bit of the beginning of Blood and rising from a grave which is nice. I particularly like when you get a bit wild with the gradient lighting and blend red with cyan (which are complimentary colors). It's a fun level with good navigation and the right amount of ammo.

Seems interesting, Ill check it out may even stream the map, seems really neat!!

Good luck just consider that it was one of my first Doom 64 levels lol.
