Title: Turok EX
Post by: CyborgParrot on February 16, 2015, 11:09:16 PM
Turok EX is a Recreation of the classic N64 game made through reverse engineering, its created by the creator of DOOM64 EX, unlike DOOM64 EX this uses its own engine which incorporates some modern rendering features such as motion blur, FXAA, bloom, and light scattering. It's currently on hold for now but there will be some news on it later this year. He is the creators blog: https://doom64ex.wordpress.com/

I got to say, i am pretty excited about this. Turok Dinosaur Hunter was the first game i ever played, and to see the game remastered on PC like DOOM 64 (which i haven't played on the system, though i have played and enjoyed DOOM 64EX immensely), I am happy to hear about this.

This is an interview with the creator of Turok EX. He says that Night Dive Studios picked up the rights to release Turok EX, which means we might be seeing a steam release!

Hi EverCoo :) Yeah that's great news and thanks for posting it. I know I was like what! when I read this at first and I was at work in a very good mood smiling xD very excited. I really liked this part :

he said he'd been working on an update of the Nintendo 64 version of Turok before starting on the Powerslave redo, but "put [it] off to the side" for some reason. And then he got to the interesting bit.
"Since now Night Dive Studios has picked up the rights to re-release it, Turok EX will resume development later this year," he said. He added that he's worked with Night Dive previously on Strife, the 1996 FPS that hit Steam last year.

What!? I never would of expected this news. I mean it should already be on steam... Turok 1 and 2 are both great classic games better then a few classics on steam already. This is really great news I am so excited to see this happen thank you Night Dive Studios ! Wow maybe this could help the forum out to with some new way to play Turok. Now we just need the game to do well as a re release and make profit! Turok makes a comeback!!!

Looks great, but with low resolution textures and no antisotropic filtering, with the low polygon models makes it a low profit, not the best idea to release on steam until it gets a modern upgrade.

I think if it goes to steam it will make it a bit easier to find and contact more Turok fans. We are all spread out it seems but quite possible with this forum maybe we can get everyone in one spot. Plus not to mention it will hit the media giving Turok as a franchise a bump in popularity with today's world.

I am now 90% sure that this is happening for Turok 1. The Turok 2 is a surprise and I don't see any images for it still so won't make considerations yet. Though it may have been considered after starting on T1 and could have been brought on board. So I do hope its true I will buy a ton of copies of the pack xD

I wanted to post these pics the day the news came out and well read forum updates section why I couldn't

Looking good. I am really hoping for a level editor. It would ensure the everlasting life of Turok with such but either way I am real excited about the remakes of Turok 1 and Turok 2.

Oh Dukey you are lucky I know this is your favorite game I hope you get a level editor to that would be beyond amazing. Anyway I am super excited for this I still wish there was a release date though :D But at the least it's in the making <3

I am still in shock that this is happening seriously there is no Turok on steam and that is so dissapointing. I can't wait maybe if they do great which they obviously will Turok Rage Wars and Evolution could come also. A full Turok revival :) I checked the ign comments looks like a ton of people are excited I mean your average gamers to not just Turok die hard fans.

Don't forget, since they're being released on Steam, the games will have a Workshop dedicated to them, meaning people will make and release mods for the titles.

Not exactly guaranteed. Most titles on Steam don't have workshop support. For example, System Shock 2, Shadow Man, and Strife: Veteran Edition (all ported by Night Dive) do not have workshop support. I'd be stoked if Turok did get it's own workshop, but I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet.
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Adon on September 08, 2015, 11:42:09 AM
Yeah hopefully Turok gets justification! I searched up this Strife game you talk about and first off I would like to say its really cool looking. Also, it seems like it should of had its own workshop since I seen there are a lot of mods/levels made for it. I guess its another classic fps that has options to create user content. That being said, I really hope Turok gets the opportunity to be on the workshop for all steam users to play :)
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Duke64 on September 08, 2015, 06:19:28 PM
Heck yeah Strife is an awesome game :) I played the steam version to (Night Dive) and its pretty flawless. Of course it didn't have mp coding or a workshop so there is less to worry about with that. The game is good though its a RPG/FPS action game in the form of Duke/Doom.

Hopefully Turok gets the full treatment like Duke Nukem 3D has! But really just being mentioned, brought back to light, worked on, plus the addition of possibly being on Steam is enough I will take it :D

Also, did you know Nightdive Studios is also responsible for porting the game Shadow Man from Acclaim?

I know I am pretty late on this but I just heard the latest news! That is really exciting you all must be excited. I headed right over here to the forum as soon as I saw it myself :) Can't wait already and I am highly surprised they mention Turok 2 but there are no screenshots of it. Not to mention when we first heard of this it only talked about Turok 1. Well its bad ass either way hope they indeed do both.

Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Duke64 on September 24, 2015, 08:20:57 PM
Yeah Turok 1 its very fit for a remake, especially if it comes with a level editor :) But Turok 2 is cool to. I agree, a bit is already going on for Turok 2 and the mp of it but would be nice to see it on steam and gog.

I really hope you get a level editor Duke, I wish you best for that. I can tell you really want it for T1 :/ Hopefully someone will implement it into Turok 1 using Kaiser's Turok viewer. To me that seems to be a few steps away from being a level editor. That or Turok ex comes with one for it..

Speaking of the chronocepter i thought up a gamemode idea surrounding it this morning.

I came up with a game mode called "Assemble the chronocepter" which is the ultimate gun in the game, basically players have to scramble to collect all 8 pieces of the weapon and if a player has a piece you can kill the player to pick up his piece and build your own, the first person to assemble the weapon and score kills with it 3 times will win. since the Chronoceptor has 3 shots, you will only be able to take 1 shot every time you assemble it, the second you fire it, it breaks again and you have to collect them again. If you didn't some how manage to kill anyone the first time you still have to collect again and get your 3 Kills with it. even though it will nuke everyone in the vicinity it needs to be a kill with each shot assembled for it to count.

what do you guys think? does that sound fun to you?

That sounds really fun actually its pretty much an all new game mode that only Turok could offer. It wouldn't make much sense in other games but here its perfection. That being said I would love it hopefully we get these options to create things like this seriously. If I can make levels for this I retire level design everywhere else for good ;P

I believe it is the N64 version being ported considering Kaiser started the work on this and that's what he used. I am pretty sure cheat codes will still be there that's something that you don't just leave out :)

Night Dive is looking for an experienced programmer right now to help on the project. Here's what you need to know.

"Looking for a Tools Programmer - someone familiar with OpenGL, wxWidgets, and Windows Applications would be awesome!
We need help on Turok!"

I will have to get in contact to see if the offer still stands. But I wanted to try and give someone a chance who is experienced in these. Email Night Dive about your inquiry if interested and have the proper skill.

"Hello,

I do not believe my favorite game will be remastred. I read about it in

I try find people to help me make turok new version, but if you doing this,
i want ask you about few things:

Turok is best true schooter like classic doom (with great brutal doom mod)
duke nukem 3d etc. But Turok have It has two elements that are the best,
JUNGLE great levels and dinosaurs :) and of course weapons and music.

So my suggestion is if is it possible add more palms, trees bushes to
levels in jungles, and is it possible to add realistc weapons like this:

Adding flametower.

Like alternative weapons (you press some key and you have real guns)

I have many ideas so if you can use please write to me. Sorry for my

I don't want Turok to be realistic either.
Title: Re: Turok EX

You just got to hope for modding availability then you can easily do these things yourself. So modding and option to create own levels is what you really want I think because then you can do everything you wish to see right on your own. From the looks of it they are simply improving on what the game already is rather then changing anything.

They might not respond because they are busy I mean just this month they released System Shock Enhanced and now it seems work has moved to Turok. They go from project to project and in between they are probably receiving new requests for other games or they already have something in the plans. All of this takes away the free time to respond to fans I don't think they personally just didn't respond to you so don't worry :)

On a side note maybe a thread about what we wish to see in the Turok HD remakes would be nice.
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: MaxMan on October 01, 2015, 09:43:41 AM
There most likely going to stick to the original game as much as possible so weapon changes most likely will not be made into this. This is an HD remake they most likely aren't going to add anything new to the game play. But I think it is possible to add mod tools and level editing tools then we can have the option to do this stuff on our own! I think they are mostly making sure the game is closest to its original form. I do wonder if mp will be available or if the mod tools we possibly receive could make it so we can implement that. I kind of want some mp for this awesome game!

I've been in Turok 1 enough now to comment a bit about how the levels are made. Here's my 2 cents on turok maps compared to hl, or quake they should be simple to make, no leaks if you know what I mean, the mesh can have cracks.

It looks as if all the individual parts are stored in a numbered system and placed in the map like puzzle peices. I don't mean the trees or enemies, I mean the cliffs, floors everything is pre-built modular peices that get placed together to form the map. It's most notable in the caves, they have a corner cave, am intersection, a 4-way, a ramp, they just keep placing them together to make a big cave.

Turok is essentially built with set pieces but there's alot of them and enough to get real creative with creating something. Level 7 the lost lands for example is nothing like any of the others. Neither is the final confrontation level. There could be a hole lot of stuff you can do with using set pieces because the entire game is made up of them and they vary alot. Another example is the Catacombs which is highly different then the rest to

Vis if they are doing Turok 2 then this most likely will be the same case for that game your right :)

Exactly my thoughts :D dude imagine new levels im not sure everyone is considering how awesome this is going to be :D Soon we can even have a user maps section on forum gives us more to talk, look, and create for Turok!!! doom and duke nukem (and a hole lot of other fps games) have user content sections on there forums and soon we will to.

Hehe reminds me of the movie IT "they float they all float and soon you'll float to" :P

Yeah I haven't been this excited for a new release in years! I'm more excited for this then the new Doom. Best release in many many years. I know guys I can't wait anymore I hear you!

A little push wouldn't hurt :) but no petitions lol
Heheh okay no petitions you can count on me :D Joking but yeah man a little push to let them know we truly want the tools so badly. I can't even explain how bad I want them.

Post by: The_EyeofTurok on December 02, 2015, 11:24:57 AM
It is better then an all new Turok game because we already know we love this game and judging off of Kaiser's work history this will just be another bad ass game he helped put back out. The main thing to me is ability to create new levels I really hope they release the tool for it. Like seriously it would be such a let down without it :/

Heheh okay no petitions you can count on me :D Joking but yeah man a little push to let them know we truly want the tools so badly. I can't even explain how bad I want them.

This thread works similar to a petition with us expressing how we want it so bad. I would pay extra for it dude
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Jay Doomed on December 02, 2015, 12:24:06 PM
Yeah I would personally buy this game full price at 60$ with the level tools :D Hell I don't care I want it so bad I would buy the game for 100 if it has the level tool
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Duke64 on December 02, 2015, 11:08:08 PM
I personally would pay for it to whatever the cost :)) but they aren't going to do it that high priced like that haha. But it surely could play an effect into how much its worth in total because that ensures some extra and new life in it... If new levels could release wow is all I can say. All in all I would pay extra for it to lol

I will cry tears of happiness if this happens. The idea of newer levels for Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, considering the already crazy set pieces that it have, that would be freakin' amazing. And if they do that for Turok 2 then I am definitely in FPS heaven.

I wonder how long it'll take for someone to make Turok versions of Hollywood Holocaust, E1M1 Hangar, and Seppuku Station once the editing tools are out? Really eager to see all the cool custom maps people come up with, too.

The leapers are probably the enemy that could be seen the most in T1. There is tons of them in the caves and underwater sections plus I think they have the highest respawn counts. They were always one of my favs :) Boy they can sure drain your health especially the leaders. Most players run from them or pass them by but I always liked fighting with them hehe :)

Pictures are teasing me!

The picture of the leaper is taken by my phone from the original Turok 1 strategy guide which means the pictures are most likely early footage or possibly beta footage from 96' since they have to write the guides before the game releases.

Well, 9-11 looks like The Jungle and 14-17 looks like either The Ruins or The Catacombs. I remember Night Dive saying that they were going to "make some changes/fixes to the original design," so I take it this means in some places the changes are fairly drastic?

I see a lot of people complaining about the price and some other minor stuff. If they have that big of a deal and wouldn't pay 15$ for Turok, then just don't and move on is what I would say! I played this now guys its really good! everything is good the light scatter is great. people underestimate what was done maybe I'm just talking as a crazy fan. I found the fov meter and loved 110 fov the most.  I most likely will never run the classics again. Today it sucked i was still at work this hole time. I'm with Rok on this GOG all the way. This game for sure would please any die hard fan of this game. Its great now nothing short

Thats video is awesome Duke it shows just about everything nice tribute man and music hahah put it in post t1 videos maybe? Anyways I'm going back to playing had to stop by first thing!! I noticed the new level design in the first level to :)) I AM TUROK!!

Went ahead and picked it up on GOG. Light scattering's broken for me, but everything else seems fine. I played up to the first save point, and I'm not sure if I like the layout change around the second level key. I wonder if, should they ever get around to Turok 3, they'll modify the beginning of Level 4 to accommodate the new ruins that have appeared? :P

I got the gog version also guys I really should do more playing there. I mostly just played AVP mp though :)

Could you get a video to show us what's happening somehow or sscreenshot at least? We could try to get stuff like that right over to them ;)

Got it a few hours ago, and I absolutely love it. The game is even faster and the greater view distance make up for some crazy enemy encounters and more challenge. My only issue so far is the portal texture. For whatever reason it appear all messed up and stretches around. I really don't know if it's my graphic card but hopefully they could fix this soon.

What I saw from YT videos, it is very good done remasterd :) They kept the best of the original and add some cool things, like better view of fog, some redesign levels.

It looks like TV static whenever I look at any place where god rays are present. There are enough people over on the Steam Community boards with the same problem, so I don't think I need to provide a screenshot as well. :P  Thanks though.

Going to beat the game today I am on level 6 in the start :) game is great to me so far and haven't had problems yet. I think 30$ would be pushing it but 15-20 sounds like an okay range for Turok to me. Most ppl just complain the game is way better. If they have problem then just play the old one. There is a big difference to me.

So far I am half-way level 6. I am starting to appreciate how corrected the enemy speed is on hard mode and how they fixed the spiritual invisibility/enemy speed glitch from the N64 version. I am struggling with ammunition now so it''s all slashy slashy with raptors, ancient warriors, poachers, and campaigner soldiers. And dang, are leapers even more of a annoyance.

I haven't actually started a proper game yet, but I have played a bit of all the levels (using cheats) to see the improvements. I like how some areas are completely different looking and there's extra things added. It's nice to hear the original music.

Yeah, I'm having issues with the Light Scatter and I had to turn it off. I mentioned it in the bugs thread. It's no big deal, although I'd like to appreciate the light beams through the fog. As much as I love the graphical improvements, I think I still prefer the draw distance turned off and happy there's that option. It gives more of that ambiance of the original version and not quite knowing what's lurking in the fog/shadows ahead.

This beats playing it on the emulator and I was happy to spend a little money on it. The only thing I wish I had seen was the endless bouncing of dead bodies (with Grenades or Alien Weapon) and still hearing them scream. I know that defies logic with a big fat middle finger, but it was funny! xD

When I start a proper play-through, I'll take my time because I like to enjoy it.

My Steam is: Dragon_of_The_Abyss86 but I won't really be on it much.

For sure, specially in the catacombs. It also kinda helped melee enemies have a chance at hitting you, but now that the ai is more aggresive thats probably useless now.

Been super busy but I got the game on saturday played for about 2 hours its been a long time since I played but it was worth it for this. I haven't noticed any bugs and light scatter is really pretty :) The game feels really good in mechanics and performance.

but now that the ai is more aggresive thats probably useless now.

The ai is smarter now right? I thought so to the enemies are much harder and fire more shots to. On hard mode wow, there so fast its actually really hard so I played on normal. But still on normal there tougher then the original :)
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: MaxMan on December 21, 2015, 11:40:47 AM
the enemy ai is surely smarter these guys don't mess around anymore :) I like it though makes the game a bit tougher. I bought it on gog and it comes with a nice wallpaper guys :) I noticed some areas are different really liked the look of the first level change up. I'm glad they kept it more close to the original though rather then changing it up to much. Night Dive did us fans good here.

I saw people trippin over the price also but to me it is worth it guys the price is okay did you guys know we can mod the game already? I'm not so good with doing it but you really can mod it now :) And I saw Kaiser talking about the level editor so we still have that to look forward to! Anyways, game is nice really smooth feel on the mouse feels free to move I love it.

Only bad thing I can say is the shotgun comes of screen while reloading if you look at the butt of the gun while pumping the shotgun you can see it come of screen. But that's no big deal :) great game!

So the enemies moves faster in hard mode by default? they only used to when you picked up a spirit token.

I heard sometime later they might plan to release the stages in its original versions.

As for modding, im wondering if besides a stage creator there will be possible to modify the models (enemies, guns)

It might have been possible that this already happened on the N64/old PC version

This stuff is possible :) we need a modding/user section for t1 now on forum maybe?! I have already started messing with some stuff in the files. We need modding/usercontent/mapping team set up here made up of true fans :D

That's a level that definitely looks better without extended draw distance and makes it feel darker. I've noticed that the Grenadiers don't throw grenades over your head, like they use to. xD

Also, am I the only one occasionally getting Mortal Wounds when using the rifle? I didn't think it works with guns... But, I'm playing Easy. I'll play higher difficulty when I start again. I love how there was a Swift and Deadly achievement. I lured four giant cave beetles and swiped them. One better than killing three at once! xP

Level 1 is still a level that I can mostly run around with just a knife in hand. Seeming I'm looking for Mortal Wounds early in the game, it saves me ammo for the levels ahead.

Seriously, the enemies are really harder on this version, even on normal mode they are way more of a challenge than in the original N64. Hard is certainly a challenge but manageable, I managed to finish the game on that difficulty after switching from normal mode on level 3.

But hardcore mode, oh boy, I started a new game on that difficulty and after a few minutes on level 3 I had to switch back to hard mode because I was getting killed left and right. The campaigner soldiers/poachers certainly have taken lessons from the forsaken warriors from Turok 3 because once they decide to start opening fire with their assault rifles they just stay glued firing away like crazy, lowering you health pretty quickly and rarely missing a shot. The already frustrating ancient warriors with blowguns become a real pain. Purlins become a nightmare and raptors always seem to give me a good maul before giving up the ghost. Even those with melee weapons had become a thing and leapers...oh god.

On a small note, I have to say that I love that they improved the shockwave cannon by making the charged shots not only cover a wider range but also becoming stronger. I noticed it on level 7, when I charged it and a alien was carbonized with one shot but regular shots took like three to be carbonized. I am glad they fixed this because originally that was a weapon that I only used on caves or in certain areas of the catacombs against leapers and beetles, now it is more useful and awesome.

I'll have to give that a try to see what that's like. You forgot to mention the Carboniferous Dragonflies. They would be a pain in the arse on Hardcore mode, because they're hard to hit at times. Not to mention the Yellow & Red Robots and the Triceratops Riders.

Those Triceratops on the hardest mode would probably give me as much trouble as the Hell Knights from Doom 3 did, earlier this year when I played it. Like the BFG9000, the Fusion Cannon is the answer for my problems! xD

Its most likely a bug. You only get them by using the knife and the bow's regular arrows. Cant remember if only human enemies drop them also.

Yeah, I know. That's why it was weird to me when I wasn't using the knife or arrows. It's no big deal because I already had the four that I wanted and I knifed them out of the enemies in level 1.

I got a few with the rifle while killing raptors in level 2. You can get Mortal Wounds from the raptors in the old game. You can't get them at all on Hard mode, but I'm not sure if that's changed for this one?

I don't mow if it has happened to anyone else but on very rare occasions whenever I kill a human enemy they may scream as if they were in tiny mode. It was kind of hilarious and I guess it was done on purpose. Had anyone had this happened to them?

Also, bleeding cyborgs...That's wonderful.

Oh my they jump off that now? Before they could not see...maybe its because of the extended draw distance they become aware of you before they normally would. Either way its really funny diving off cliffs to hunt for Turok but all they get is an arrow in the head :D

In the long run Xbox gets better exclusives, games like Perfect Dark XBLA and Serious Sam HD collection. I don't want to start a console war or anything but in my experience Xbox gets the games I like.

Also a little off topic but Night Dive are bring System Shock Remastered to consoles too

I made a few comparison gifs

Those are nice comparisons though man I hope System Shock does good. I hope System Shock does great it seems like its going to be fun and it doesn't have to be an AAA game to succeed at being a classic fps.

We mostly talk about it here on Night Dive thread though :P http://www.turokforums.com/anything-else/night-dive-studios/

It seems to me in this situation Xbox is more willing and open to taking a risk. It has been that way for awhile. Playstation and Nintendo should be more open especially since its Turok... We aren't talking about some indie game that isn't so good. So I don't see what's the big deal. In this position from my view Xbox at the least appears to be smart and open for business. Night Dive can at least say they tried with the other consoles. Hopefully the other consoles will allow it. I don't own any of those consoles though heh and not saying one is better then the other as i have no idea. Its just nice to see Turok go further then PC only. Also, wonder what ever happened with the editor.. Guess there working on it. Just seems it kinda got quiet.

So many of my buddies will get this game now becasue its on console, a lot of my friends are console gamers so it's really good that people who don't play games on PC will now get to experience it. I might even buy the Xbox version too just to support it. How awesome would it be if it came on a disc! I would love that.

I hear you though. Who cares how much it is lets not get into that waa waa conversation lol. The game is totally worth it. And for ppl to say the modding is done just because the workshop isnt coming hurts my inner feelings. So please respond to my pm and we can meet for a beer or something. And talk it over. I think we'll see the editor eventually.  Turok EX is a passion project for Kaiser.  Even if Night Dive decides not to fund it, and even if they have him port the rest of the series before he can come back to it, I have a feeling he'll finish it eventually.

It's also possible they're just busy with the xbone port.

I agree all the way yeah its a passion project that wasn't started with $ bill signs only in mind exactly. And if he really did port the hole series it would be more then awesome. I kind of thought the samething about how eventually we will have some kind of editor. I believe they are focused on doing the Xbox one verson right now that was the last they shared any news at least what I know. And my guess is Turok 2 is in development at the same time. Its probably a load of work. I don't even want an xbox one but if it releases there it would still be kind of exciting to me. And it gives Turok more chances

Good job Duke yes spread the Turok love and nearly 3k people joining back to back is quite a bit actually. That is nice of you.

I am still hoping they will announce something on the editor even if it is a no go. If someone could just tell us that and maybe say why(even know I have an idea why and kind of know). But maybe they aren't able to discuss exactly why yet. Or its quite possible that its just on hold atm. Who knows but now I am wondering about Turok 2 a little bit.

Well i decided to take advantage of the sale and get it. And  I got some questions/suggestions:

-Add an option in the gameplay tab to configure the games setting to be like in the original game (fog distance, etc)

-Why they gave a map to the small maze in stage1, where you find the first chronosceptor piece?

-If they added extrended view distance, make the enemies also have increases view distance. not fun to hit enemies that didnt even see you.

Just some nitpicks, the game is great, tough im still annoyed at the change in the statue area in stage4 (they could just fix it but instead they scrapped it altogether)

Yeah doesn't it make the enemies have more vision and makes them faster on the hardest mode?

Also, wanted to do a random note that we don't need a workshop either there is plenty of things we can do with mods already. Screw steam workshop in fact stupid steam workshop is probably helping with the murder of the editor release. Rather use here and moddb for releases. Steam can shove it.
Title: Re: Turok EX
Post by: Mon-Ark on July 12, 2016, 10:19:05 PM
Well hard doesnt give them more vision, gotta check hardcore.
Also theres some part of the map that should be seen, even with default fog. Whats the option to change that?

BTW, my memory is very fuzzy about this but besides the 3 sized leapers, the giant one and the stone leapers, wasnt there a big white one on the N64 version?

Did a steam review of Turok hehe

My Turok Dinosaur Hunter steam review :

Tal'Set from Turok Dinosaur Hunter is a G. He has many adversaries to take care of. Such as various dinosaurs, various demons, aliens, overgrown insects, various poachers, various cyborgs, giant plants, various pur-Lin, ancient warriors, and of course the overlord boss the Campaigner. How many other classic FPS heroes have slayed a wide variety like this?

I was still playing the original version here because unlike many others I still had this game and have been playing it for years. Before this released I was playing the original one recently. Doesn't matter what version I play I love both and Night Dive Studios and Kaiser did a great job here making the game feel more up to date and provided more settings. Not to mention the modding abilities compared to the original. Great game here its not the same as "just going to get it on ebay for N64" Please don't say that I respect and admire the original one more than the usual person but to say these are the same is not actually true. Btw I actually play more on GOG.

I beated the game on hardcore sometime after my previous post, and I still think enemies dont get any more range of sight. The demons in stage 7&8 have more range by default so thats it.

I guess its just here for the people that felt insulted by not being able to see a bit more.

Hardcore diffuclty itself was very fun tough, and I really got to fiddle arounf more with the shockwave cannon. The range of a full charged shot is just insane.

Yeah man ;) hardcore mode. Tis the only way to go for me! Truly makes the game shine iat it's best, I noticed these differences in range aswell. They can be modified for each enemy by editing the givin enemys def text file. I have not been down that part of town in a few days now but I'm not sure if these enemy def files is or is not a that one def structure I do recall having to declare a new var in main, and ect. Ect. In order to enable the full range of scale abilitys possible for the Params in these def files, I think I both found some more usable Params for a def file found it in the .exe and noticed it's not used in vans def, also not useable untill I enabled. When doing this I then noticed that I I could now set different values for most of the already scene Params in the def folders scripts, for exsample. I changed the player model to the Dino rider bad guy. I then rendered the player model at all time when the player is in control, now the player is on screen becuse I then moved the player camera back just a bit and then up so it would be in the area of where the grunts head is, the grunt who rides the dino( Dino rider is the badguys name in the scripts) but the camera would only go so much and I could not change the cams height value to a value I knew it accepts.

A idea would be to edit the bullets that come out of bad guys guns ( the .kfx files for there bullets )  make them projectiles and not insta hits but make the projectile relistcly fast,  in the same kfx; add a trail to those bulets, effect is badass if done right. Bullets can even rid off of walls tracers and all, the angel of the ricache is  very configurable at that point. And finally, enhance enemys line of sight.

I noticed wile looking into the different features of how a enemy can sense a player in game and i came across a lot of possibilitys. Already in game is a basic crude and simple, framework for enemys being able to here you. I won't rant on I just thought it was interesting, a lot of work in this one mod I have been keeping secret as I work on was influenced by these features. Wanted to addon to it: enemys can not see the player if the player is on top of a certain floor texture and enemys not being able to see the player if the player is within a certain models, pos radius; this way we can have the player hide in tall grass hidden from enemys and there line of sights. They can here gunfire already in game and it triggers the enemy awareness to the player and engages, for that one I was thinking, why not here footsteps or walking on metal, this dame game has more possibilitys then most anything else I have had this much access to. I even wanna say more so then ue4.

Hmm I'm interested to see what that plasma cannon would feel like if it went on untill a collision, and only on top of that may be interesting to have a 2nd key button blow it up on demand, would add a new tool to some of those fights in game, even more so if all my ranting about changing bad guys bullets.

I'll finish this post tomorrow . 10 at night so sleepylol. Maby should of held off but sorry for this pm you guys can prob tell I am half asleep lol. I wanted to bring up the draw distance maby I will here; I'll fix this up in the morning. Night y'all have a good one be safe cya around.

In the end I guess I jus see how the kex engine can pull off most everything we would have seen in any other game on the market, for this reason I can say that whatever we think of most likely can be done in game for what we know is what we have done and what we have experienced is all that enables us to use our amagination. Literally most anything we would like to see in a game can in time be pulled of in this software that runs Turok. In my opinion the kex engine is in every definition: a true modern marvel

Title: Re: Turok EX

The Kex engine can do a lot of things and I'm pretty sure that it could possibly do almost any N64 game. As long as someone or team had the focus to do it, ability to pull the models and some assets from said game, and skill to code and develop in order to make all pieces work and match things up. Other words a lot of hard work. Of course having the source could help a hole lot.

So, is there anything redeemable about the alien gun? I just cant seem to find a single good use for it where either the pulse rifle or the particle accelerator outperform it.

I always just use the Pulse Rifle xD Particle Accelerator is always fun to use though. Alien weapon is my third choice in these because it uses my Pulse Ammo lol.

Thats the problem.

5 energy cells for less damage than 5 shots with the pulse rifle, and if you are for the blast radius then the particle accelerator has a ginormous area of effect with enough damage to kill a high priest on normal, for just 10 energy cells.

Yeah it does self damage a lot I don't think its a very useful weapon its more a cool weapon an additional touch to weapons I suppose.

The alien gun use to make the player pop up just a bit and takes damage. I learned how to pulloff alot from observing the scripts that make the push happen. Kex is a brilliant thing.

I really like kex so far in any format xD It is responsible for bringing back two of my favorite games (soon to be 3). And I mean like top 3 games so a big thing for me and gave them both editors. I still find myself in Doom 64 ex these days lol. To me it has outlasted BD64 not a knock on BD64 though that mod is fun as hell and on zandronum mp servers is great BD64 is pretty good for a great arcade D64 experience staying somewhat original Heavy Metal Doom 64. Even started a few maps for it also. I just think Doom 64 EX is the true version because it stays nearly identically true. I don't even have to go over kex when it comes to doing Turok. Nothing short of greatness :))

I know you have been looking at kex in full and man it can do a lot of things its a brilliant engine yeah just like you said.

Nice to see you i'm rambling though lol.

It's good for killing enemies on the first hit and then blasting their screaming corpses high into the air on the secondary! xD

I think the explosive blast can have some crowd control use and I know it can knock down trees on enemies. I'd normally use a Grenade Launcher on something like a Purr-Linn, though and I usually do on that first Purr-Linn you encounter at the Treetop Village.

About the high priests... arent their red fireballs supposed to be homing or something? because right now its just a crappier version of their norm firebal.

In case anyone's interested, I wrote a guide (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1263050626) on the level changes made in the remaster, based on the notes I took while playing the originals on the workshop.

Looks like the release is set for March 2nd. Hoping the PC version gets patched too, considering there's those locked achievements on DH and T2 is still using 1.5.7 since October.

Took a few comparison pics.  Looks mostly the same, but a few models seems to have different surface normals (resulting in different shading), and particle rendering seems pretty different (back to normal in the latest update).

I'm gonna have to check and rework so many particle effects for Turok+.  :dizzy:

Edit: just noticed shadows now blend with fog and water properly.  So that's kinda nice.
Edit 2: particle colors are back to normal now.

Still wish we could get ambient occlusion and mip mapping/anisotropic filtering.  Oh well. :/

I want to see how far i can go modding it on the Switch, I hope it's not too complex.

Your biggest issue is going to be cracking open your Switch and being able to load modifications onto the game in the first place.

Your next big issue would be grabbing an ISO of the Switch version of the game and being able to extract the content from it, and then either injecting your modifications back into it, or making patch files.

So yeah, its a lot of work.
