Turok: Evolution Texture Editing Tutorial

This tutorial will show you how you can change the textures in Turok: Evolution and create a basic skin.
Before we start, you will need either Gimp or Photoshop with a .dds plugin installed to edit the textures.

Now without any further ado, lets start edit some textures!


Step 1: Choose your prefered program and open the textures you want to edit (for this tutorial, i chose the Wisefather) and copy it with Control + C. After that, open paint and paste it there.

Step 2: Find / draw whatever picture you want to use for the mod and keep it somewhere.
Cut out the place you want to edit in paint and drag the base image over your new image like so:





The result would be something like this:

Now copy this back into the program you used to open the .dds file and paste it over the existing image. Now simply save it and you're done!

Step 3: more complicated edits.
This tutorial was made rather simple on purpose, theres tons more you can do with it than a simple beard change. The sky's the limit! Well and the model ofcourse... ːbadcatː
A few examples:
Tarkeen Grim Reaper mod


[INGAME PICTURE COMING IN A SHORT WHILE]

I changed tarkeens robe black with a filter but kept the normal colour for the symbols and changed his face to half a skull. Why half a skull / face? Well unlike most characters in the game, some of them have only half a face which is than mirrored and wrapped around the models head.

Tal'set with clothes mod
Again, like with Tarkeens robe, i used a filter to make his pants dark grey-ish and i used a t-shirt i found online as the rest of his textures. After that, i added the turok evolution logo. I think it turned out pretty well.



Second Variant for Duke and Vis




A few characters like Xon just use their single player textures. This means that you can change their skin to a different one simply by getting one of the variants and renaming it.
The old red robe was cool and all but the black and red tribal was what did the trick for me so i decided to change it and:


Abra cadabra, looks better already!
